Localization Technology
One of CSOFT greatest strengths is our in-depth knowledge of the wide range of current localization technologies and tools. The technical aspect of localization projects is crucial. Computer aided translation technologies or CAT tools offer important benefits over traditional translation process for the following reasons:
- Improved quality with verifiable consistency and terminology accuracy throughout a project
- Greater efficiency by leveraging existing translation assets, thereby reducing overall project costs
- Shortened localization cycle so products can be deployed more quickly in the global market
CAT tools, by definition, are technologies that aid human translators by eliminating repetitive work, automating terminology lookup and management, and recycling previously translated texts. CAT tools are further divided into the following categories:
- Translation memory (TM)
- Terminology management
- Software engineering
Translation Memory (TM) Tools
Translation Memory enables the user to store translated sentences or phrases, called translation segments, into a database so they can be reused for future translations. The database contains bilingual pairs for the source and target languages. When a match is found, the existing translation is adapted for the target language. By allowing a translator to leverage existing translation segments, TM tools greatly improve translation efficiency and consistency and reduce costs.

Terminology Management Tools
Terminology management technologies allow a translator to efficiently lookup and manage terminologies during translation. The most obvious benefits of these tools include automatic lookup for terminology translation, streamlined process for verifying terminology translation consistency, and management. Good terminology management tools also enable technical authors and translators to incorporate additional information such as definitions, context, gender, source, synonyms, product dependency and more. Some tools also allow terminologies to be extracted based on predefined criteria such as occurrence frequency and origin.
